Why recovery doesn’t end when the wound has healed

Jeremy Parker is a specialist physiotherapist in post-cosmetic surgery recovery and scar rehabilitation, seeing private patients in Central London and Kent. With more than 30 years of clinical experience, he specialises in helping patients recover following cosmetic, reconstructive and other surgery, particularly when scar tissue, swelling, pain, tightness or tissue restriction are affecting movement and everyday function.
His main areas of expertise include post-surgical rehabilitation, scar tissue management, scar rehabilitation, pain treatment and the management of post-operative swelling. He also works with patients experiencing persistent problems following surgery, including restricted movement, discomfort and long-standing scars that continue to influence mobility months or even years after the original procedure.
Jeremy's approach focuses on the relationship between scar tissue, soft-tissue restriction and movement throughout the body. Rather than assessing only the surgical site or the area where symptoms are felt, he examines movement patterns and tissue restrictions more broadly. This can be particularly relevant when an abdominal, C-section or other surgical scar is associated with tightness or restriction elsewhere in the body.
Treatment begins with a detailed assessment of the patient's surgical history, movement, tissue health and recovery goals. Jeremy combines hands-on physiotherapy with individually tailored rehabilitation, adapting treatment according to whether the patient is in the early stages of post-operative recovery or is seeking help for an older or more complex scar.
Where clinically appropriate, treatment may also incorporate technologies including B-E-St frequency-specific microcurrent therapy and LymphaTouch as adjuncts within a wider rehabilitation programme. These are used alongside hands-on treatment and rehabilitation rather than as stand-alone approaches, with the overall aim of improving tissue mobility, movement and function.
He currently practises with 991 Therapy in Central London and at 991 Therapy at Skin & Six in Great Chart, Ashford, Kent. His practice is particularly suited to patients seeking specialist physiotherapy after cosmetic or reconstructive surgery, those experiencing post-operative swelling or restricted mobility, and people whose surgical scars continue to affect movement or function long after the wound itself has healed.
Jeremy's aim is to help patients progress beyond wound healing towards comfortable movement, improved function and the best achievable long-term recovery following surgery.
