
Dr Kesavan Kandiah

Dr Kesavan Kandiah is a consultant gastroenterologist based in London. He specialises in bowel cancer screening, acid reflux and Barrett’s oesophagus, alongside endoscopy, blood in stool (rectal bleeding) and abdominal pain. He privately practises at The Lister Hospital, Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital and Cromwell Hospital, while his NHS base is St George’s University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Kandiah has a special interest in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, particularly in the detection and resection of large or complex colonic polyps. He leads the Complex Polyp Multi-Disciplinary Team at St George’s and is an accredited endoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme. He is also highly experienced in managing inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, as well as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other general gastroenterological conditions.
He completed his medical degree at the University of Manchester in 2006 before undertaking specialist training in gastroenterology within the North West London Deanery. To further develop his expertise, he completed an Advanced Endoscopy Research Fellowship at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth in 2017, focusing on advanced endoscopic detection and resection techniques. His research has been widely presented at national and international conferences, and he has published extensively on advanced endoscopy.
As the endoscopy training lead at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Kandiah is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of gastroenterologists. His contributions to the field were recognised in 2016 when he was awarded the Marsha Dreyer Award by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy for his work on the advanced resection of colonic polyps.
Dr Kandiah is a member of several professional organisations, including the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE). He speaks English, Greek and Malay.
