Mr Kunal Bhakhri

Mr Kunal Bhakhri is a highly skilled consultant cardiothoracic surgeon specialising in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries. He completed his specialist training at Royal Papworth Hospital and further advanced his expertise through a robotic thoracic fellowship at Guy’s Hospital.

Since 2019, he has been the robotic lead for thoracic surgery at University College London Hospitals, where he has played a key role in developing and applying cutting-edge robotic surgical techniques to treat both benign and malignant thoracic diseases. His clinical practice covers a broad spectrum of thoracic conditions, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, chest wall deformities such as pectus carinatum and excavatum, pneumothorax, mediastinal tumours, and chest trauma.

Mr Bhakhri is well known for his skill in chest wall reconstruction procedures like the NUSS operation for pectus excavatum. He focuses on minimal access surgery to help reduce recovery time and improve patient outcomes, striving to make surgeries less invasive while maintaining high standards of care.

Beyond his clinical work, Mr Bhakhri is passionate about medical education and holds an advanced degree in this field. He has contributed to creating a robotic thoracic surgery curriculum in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has published research on the effectiveness and quality of robotic surgery compared to traditional and other minimally invasive methods. His academic interests include both training future surgeons and advancing surgical techniques to enhance patient safety and recovery.
