Professional statement
Dr Laura Flor-Prades is a Spanish and London-trained Consultant Gastroenterologist with over a decade of clinical experience across the British and Spanish healthcare systems. Her practice combines rigorous specialist gastroenterology with an evidence-based integrative approach, applied in that order: clinical assessment and differential diagnosis come first, with nutritional, microbiome and gut–brain interventions integrated within a structured medical framework.
Her clinical interests include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), bloating, food intolerances, indigestion (dyspepsia), acid reflux, abdominal pain, coeliac disease, Helicobacter pylori, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and complex functional gastrointestinal disorders. Her clinical work focuses particularly on persistent digestive symptoms that have remained unresolved despite previous investigations, and on cases that benefit from a thorough reassessment and an accurate differential diagnosis.
Dr Flor-Prades qualified in Medicine at the Universidad de Navarra and completed her specialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia. She holds a Master's degree in Advanced Therapeutic Gastrointestinal Endoscopy from Universitat de Barcelona (2016) and a PhD Cum Laude from Universidad de Valencia (2017). Her advanced endoscopy training includes a fellowship at Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge (Barcelona), an observership at Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli (Rome), and a competitive Endoluminal Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London (2019–2020). She subsequently held a long-standing post as Bank Staff Endoscopist Consultant at St Mary's Hospital, London, where she performed diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Her clinical practice combines specialist gastroenterology with advanced postgraduate training in clinical nutrition (BANT-registered), Functional Medicine (Institute for Functional Medicine, IFM), the low FODMAP diet (Monash University Certified Practitioner), eating awareness training (MB-EAT, California) and cognitive therapy training applied to gut–brain interventions (Oxford).
Dr Flor-Prades has been recognised by Doctoralia as a Finalist for Top Gastroenterologist in Spain and has received the Doctoralia Certificate of Clinical Excellence in consecutive years. She has held university teaching posts in Gastroenterology, trained junior doctors and research fellows, and published in peer-reviewed journals on advanced endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease and therapeutic gastroenterology.
Dr Flor-Prades currently offers specialist online consultations in English and Spanish. Online consultations include a comprehensive clinical assessment and a detailed clinical letter to the patient's GP or referring clinician, with recommended investigations, dietary guidance and treatment plans where appropriate. Prescriptions are issued via the patient's GP or referring clinician to ensure continuity of care.

- She prescribed SIBO treatment with rifaxmin antibiotics that didn't work. She Referred me to Dr. Mazzuka, whose approach is not evidence-based; I spent €160 on an unhelpful consult and Dr. Flor neither acknowledged the mismatch nor apologized after I asked her about it. She suggested long COVID/Lyme without explaining what findings supported that. Given persistent symptoms & money spent on 2 calls, I expected clearer longitudinal guidance and more empathy.Doctor's response -Thank you for sharing your experience. I am sorry that your symptoms have persisted and that you did not feel as supported as you needed. When clinical concerns extend beyond gastroenterology, my ethical responsibility is to recommend the most appropriate clinical input, even if that means seeking assessment outside my own specialty. Such referrals are made carefully and in good faith, although I am not in a position to direct the approach taken by an independent clinician. Complex, evolving presentations benefit most from structured longitudinal follow-up, where symptoms, treatment response and next steps can be reviewed properly. Brief communication outside appointments cannot replace this process. For reasons of medical confidentiality, I cannot comment on individual clinical details in a public forum. I wish you all the best with your ongoing care. Dr Laura Flor
