Dr Mariana Colmenares

Dr Mariana Colmenares is a leading breastfeeding and lactation specialist, certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2011. She practices privately at the Global Breastfeeding Clinic, where she is widely recognised for delivering outstanding, evidence-based and compassionate care in breastfeeding support and tongue-tie management. With over 15 years of experience in breastfeeding medicine, she has performed more than 4,000 tongue-tie release procedures, establishing herself as a trusted expert in the field.

Alongside her private practice, Dr Colmenares works as a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she contributes to community paediatrics with a particular focus on neurodevelopment and autism assessments. This dual role allows her to integrate a holistic and developmentally informed approach into her clinical work.

Dr Colmenares graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and completed her paediatric training at the Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, Mexico’s leading referral centre for child health. She also trained at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, a highly regarded institution for clinical excellence and research.

She has a strong commitment to advancing both developmental paediatrics and breastfeeding medicine, with extensive experience in clinical care, professional training, and research. She has further specialised in neurodevelopmental paediatrics and has undertaken advanced training in autism and autism assessment.

Dr Colmenares is also actively engaged at an international level. She collaborates with the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM), where she has served as Secretary since 2022, and contributes to global health initiatives alongside the National Institute of Public Health Mexico and UNICEF.
