Mr Muhammad Umar

Mr Muhammad Umar is a fellowship-trained consultant trauma & orthopaedic surgeon specialising in lower limb arthroplasty and complextrauma. He practices at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle and the Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield. With extensive experience in managing elective and emergency orthopaedic cases, he is committed to delivering exceptional patient care through evidence-based practice, innovation, and continuous professional development. His role as a consultant has provided him with invaluable insights into the multifaceted responsibilities of a modern NHS surgeon, including leadership, clinical excellence, education, and service development.

Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in managing a full spectrum of trauma cases, including paediatric and adult trauma, peri-prosthetic fractures, and peri-articular fracture management. He has performed over 500 arthroplasty procedures, including total hip replacements, total knee replacements, and minimally invasive partial knee replacements. His extensive expertise in joint preservation and sports injuries further enhances his capabilities, enabling him to provide arthroscopic knee surgery and tailored treatment approaches for patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, and skeletal metastases. Additionally, he offers minimally invasive surgical procedures for joint cartilage regeneration, limb realignment for arthritis and joint injections (PRP and viscosupplements).

As a fellowship-trained trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, he has completed specialised training in full spectrum and Trauma care and lower limb surgery, including a BOA National Clinical Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital and a Major Trauma Fellowship at Aintree Hospital. These experiences have enhanced his expertise in managing everyday and complex trauma, including peri-prosthetic and peri-articular fractures. These have also equipped him with advanced surgical skills for lower limb orthopaedic presentations and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

He also has a strong interest in Children’s Orthopaedics and provides dedicated paediatric orthopaedic services in both NHS and private healthcare settings. At Macclesfield District General Hospital, he manages a range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions in collaboration with Manchester Children’s Hospital, ensuring young patients receive specialised, high-quality care. In the private sector, he extends his expertise through the Circle Health Group, offering tailored treatment plans for children with orthopaedic concerns. His approach prioritises early diagnosis, minimally invasive interventions where possible, and a compassionate, family-centred treatment model.

Beyond Mr Umar’s clinical expertise, he is deeply involved in departmental governance, service planning, and medical education. As an educational supervisor, he mentors medical students and junior doctors, fostering their professional growth and engagement in clinical governance activities. He also contributes to multidisciplinary discussions, particularly in oncology and metastatic bone disease, collaborating with specialist centres such as The Christie Hospital and the Liverpool Metastatic Bone Service. His role as a metastatic bone service lead enables him to oversee complex patient care while ensuring the highest standards of clinical outcomes.
