Mr Niaz Islam is a leading consultant ophthalmologist surgeon in London with a particular interest in medical retina and cataract surgery.
He graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, London in 1996 and trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital for eight years, including undertaking two medical retinal fellowships and as a locum consultant in 2007.
He was appointed a consultant in medical retina and cataract, and education supervisor and diabetic retinal clinical lead, 2007-13. In 2012 Mr Islam was nominated for a National Macular Disease Society Award by patients for excellent service delivery and clinical care.
He has published over 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored "Crash Course in Ophthalmology". In 2016 Mr Islam was appointed as clinical lead for quality and safety at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

- Niaz is an excellent ophthalmologist and consultant, and his service is truly second to none. I had both of my cataract surgeries performed by him, and I couldn’t have been in better hands. He has extensive knowledge and expertise, and he takes the time to explain everything clearly, both before and after the surgery, including the expected outcome and recovery. I am extremely pleased with the care I received and would highly recommend Niaz to anyone looking for an experienced consultant.
- The treatment I received from all the staff at the Holly was exemplary. I especially was more than satisfied with Mr. Islam who carried out the surgery for my cataract. I wasn’t so much scared but nervous as I am very squeamish about eyes and Mr. Islam put me completely at ease and chatted to me all the way through the procedure but not describing what he was doing. This suited me down to the ground and I am now looking forward to having my other eye done in a few weeks time.
