Mr Nima Abbassi-Ghadi is an experienced consultant upper gastrointestinal surgeon practising at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital, Circle Mount Alvernia Hospital, Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital, and the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He specialises in the management of acid reflux, hiatal hernias, oesophageal cancer, and gastric cancer, offering patients expert, personalised care using the most advanced surgical techniques available.
Mr Abbassi-Ghadi is a recognised leader in robotic surgery and utilises the Da Vinci Surgical System to deliver state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedures. He is also an international proctor in robotic surgery, training surgeons at leading centres worldwide. In addition to his specialist interests, he has extensive experience in keyhole hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, and weight loss (bariatric) surgery.
Mr Abbassi-Ghadi is the Clinical Lead for Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Surgery at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, home to one of the highest-volume oesophagectomy units in the UK. He graduated from the University of Nottingham and completed his higher surgical training in London, gaining expertise in advanced and minimally invasive techniques. He was awarded the prestigious ALSGBI Braun Aesculap International Fellowship, through which he undertook further specialist training at the internationally renowned National Cancer Centre in Seoul, South Korea.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Abbassi-Ghadi is involved in pioneering research. He completed a PhD at Imperial College London focusing on oesophageal cancer and has published extensively in leading scientific journals, including Cancer Research and Advanced Materials. He currently serves as a Reader at the University of Surrey, where he supervises PhD research funded by the World Cancer Research Fund, exploring the role of exercise in enhancing immune function and improving responses to cancer immunotherapy. He is also the Divisional Research Lead for Surgery at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, reflecting his commitment to advancing surgical innovation and improving patient outcomes through research.
