Dr Omer Ahmad is a multi-award winning gastroenterologist and expert interventional endoscopist practising at prestigious locations including the London Digestive Centre and University College Hospital London.
Dr Ahmad is currently clinical co-lead for the North Central London Endoscopy Network. He is one of the select few endoscopists specialising in the early detection and treatment of pre-cancerous conditions in both the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract (oesophagus, stomach and colon/bowel). He is a specialist-accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (requiring rigorous accreditation and audit of key performance indicators).
He was ranked first nationally in the United Kingdom to gain specialist training, awarded the British Society of Gastroenterology clinical and translational scientist of the year and subsequently the National Endoscopy Rising Star Award. He studied medicine at University College London graduating with a distinction in both clinical sciences and practice alongside a 1st Class Honours intercalated degree in Pharmacology. He was awarded the A.J. Clark Prize for the best overall performance and placed on the prestigious Dean's List for outstanding academic achievement.
Dr Ahmad is a luminal gastroenterologist, in addition to advanced endoscopy, his specialist clinical practice includes the diagnosis and management of a wide range of gut disorders such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn) and irritable bowel syndrome.
His completed an academic endoscopy fellowship and PhD at UCL, developing pioneering AI software now used in clinical practice to detect early signs of gastrointestinal cancer. He continues to lead innovative research at the Division of Surgery and Interventional Sciences and the Surgical Robot Vision Research Group at UCL. He serves as an expert working member on multiple scientific committees and is frequently invited internationally to lecture (British Society of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Japanese GI Endoscopy Society).
