Mr Philip Dobson

Mr Philip Dobson is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Newcastle upon Tyne, specialising in ACL reconstruction, knee replacement, partial knee replacement, hip replacement, robotic surgery, cartilage reconstruction, osteotomy, PCL reconstruction and patella stabilisation. He sees private patients at Nuffield Health Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital, while his NHS base is Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Dobson has a particular interest in robotic-assisted techniques for both knee and hip replacement surgery. He graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2007 and completed higher surgical training in orthopaedics in the North East of England. He then undertook two years of international fellowship training in Australia, focusing on knee, hip and sports injury surgery at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre and major trauma surgery at John Hunter Hospital in New South Wales. During this time, he gained extensive experience in managing complex joint conditions and high-level sports injuries.

In parallel with his clinical training, Mr Dobson completed a PhD at Newcastle University, researching the effects of ageing and mitochondrial dysfunction on bone density, osteoblast and osteoclast function. His research has been recognised for its contribution to musculoskeletal science and underpins his evidence-based approach to orthopaedic care.

Mr Dobson is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. He is known for his commitment to surgical excellence, patient-centred care, and treatment plans tailored to each patient's lifestyle and recovery goals.
