Mr Qutayba Almerie is a highly skilled Consultant Bariatric, Upper Gastrointestinal & General Surgeon based in Manchester Royal Infirmary (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust).
Qutayba is also the Programme Director of the Royal College of Surgeons accredited Phoenix Health Advanced Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery Fellowship.
He specialises in bariatric (weight loss) surgery and weight loss management, acid reflux and hiatal hernia surgery, gallbladder surgery and abdominal wall hernia surgery.
After graduating from medical school in the top of his class, Qutayba received extensive postgraduate training in general, laparoscopic (keyhole), and upper gastrointestinal surgery in the Yorkshire region leading to the completion of his speciality training in Upper Gastrointestinal & General Surgery (CCT).
Qutayba then pursued further specialisation in bariatric (weight loss) surgery. He undertook the prestigious Phoenix Health Advanced Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery. During this 2-year fellowship, he was trained on all aspects of bariatric surgery under the mentorship of the internationally renowned Professor David Kerrigan; the former president of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS).

Qutayba’s current role both at the NHS and Phoenix Health extends to training new surgeons in all aspects of weight loss and upper gastrointestinal surgery. A role Qutayba continues to enjoy playing to ensure the continuous influx of new talented surgeons to this field.

Qutayba is deeply involved in medical research. He has published over 50 medical articles and co-authored few book chapters in the field of Obesity and weight loss surgery. He has also presented his research findings at multiple national and international conferences (ResearchGate).

- His examination of me, was like a top scientist. He investigated my health background thoroughly. Alas, I was suffering horribly with acid choking me and burping and pain everywhere and blurred vision too. I felt so embarrassed by my condition. However, he advised knowledgeable to have a camera up my nose to investigate my inner body. This I am doing next Thursday. My husband and I have a million and trillion respect for this man.

- I successfully underwent surgery to repair an inguinal hernia in early January 2025. In the consultation prior to the operation Dr Almerie provided a thorough explanation of the procedure and the recovery time. On operation day Dr Almerie put me at ease and the anaesthetic team were also extremely helpful in calming my pre-op nerves. The operation went as expected and I was able to return home after a few hours in recovery. Within 2 months I was back to a physically demanding sports coach job.
