Dr Rafael Bach is a consultant medical oncologist practising at the Clatterbridge Private Clinic in Liverpool and Wirral. He specialises in the treatment of skin cancer and melanoma, including squamous cell carcinoma, and utilises approaches to treatment such as immunotherapy, targeted therapies, checkpoint inhibitors, and adjuvant therapy.
Dr Bach qualified from the Universidad de Málaga and undertook speciality training in Barcelona. He completed an MD at the University of Oulu in Finland and a master’s degree at the Universitat de Girona, during which time he undertook a visiting research fellowship with The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in the UK. He then gained further oncological expertise with a postgraduate degree in Precision Oncology at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. For five years, he was a medical oncologist at Barcelona’s Hospital Del Mar before coming to the UK to take up a post as consultant oncologist with The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
Dr Bach is a member of the Specialist Immunotherapy Toxicity Service (SIOTS), contributing to efforts to improve patient safety and management of side effects from immunotherapy treatment. As a researcher, he has performed as both sub-investigator and Principal Investigator for several international clinical trials, in addition to developing advanced cell therapies, such as tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes. He is a member of several esteemed institutions, such as the Royal College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO).
