Dr Rakesh Amin is a distinguished consultant paediatric endocrinologist and diabetes specialist based in London. With over 30 years of experience, Dr Amin sees child and adolescent patients up to the age of 21, and is renowned for his expertise in growth, thyroid, puberty, adrenal and pituitary disorders, bone related problems, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and childhood obesity.
Dr Amin qualified in medicine with honours at Leeds University Medical School in 1991. He undertook further training in paediatric medicine in London before specialising in paediatric endocrinology through training in Oxford and London. Dr Amin has completed a Master’s in diabetes and endocrinology at King's College London and was also awarded an MD with commendation in 2006 for his research undertaken at Cambridge on the subject of the hormonal determinants of microvascular disease in type 1 diabetes.
He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Dr Amin has served as a consultant in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes since 2005, formerly at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and St. Barts and the London Hospitals. He is currently based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, where he has held a number of leadership roles, including clinical lead of his department. He sees private patients at HCA The Portland Hospital, London Medical and through the International and Private Patient Care at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
