Professor Ramon Andrade De Mello

Professor Ramon Andrade De Mello is a prominent board-certified consultant medical oncologist based in London, specialising in gastrointestinal (GI) oncology, including colorectal, oesophageal, gastric, pancreatic and biliary tract cancers. He has particular expertise in precision oncology, immunotherapy and targeted therapies, using molecular profiling to help guide personalised cancer treatment. He currently sees private patients at The Blackheath Hospital and The Hale Clinic.

Professor De Mello holds an MD from the Federal University of Ceará, Fortaleza, Brazil, a postgraduate diploma and a PhD in Medicine and Molecular Oncology from the University of Porto, Portugal, and an MBA in Health Industry Management. He completed his specialist medical oncology training at the Portuguese Oncology Institute in Porto and undertook a clinical research fellowship at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London.

Alongside his private practice, Professor De Mello worked as Consultant Medica Oncologist, Oxford University Hospitals, Oxford, and Senior Clinical Researcher, Department of Oncology, University of Oxford. Currently he is a Senior Substantive Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Kent Oncology Centre, where he leads GI medical oncology services at Darent Valley Hospital. He also holds honorary professorships at the University of Surrey and the University of Kent's Kent and Medway Medical School. In Brazil, he is Professor of Medical Oncology at Universidade Nove de Julho (UNINOVE), where he directs the Precision Oncology and Health Economics Research Group.

With extensive clinical research experience, Professor De Mello has participated in more than 40 industry-sponsored and academic phase II and III clinical trials. His research focuses on gastrointestinal cancers, molecular biomarkers, liquid biopsies and precision immunotherapy, helping advance more personalised approaches to cancer treatment. He has authored more than 200 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Annals of Oncology, The Lancet Oncology and Cancer Treatment Reviews, and has contributed to the ASCO Educational Book.

Professor De Mello is Vice-President of the Brazilian Society of Cancerology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has also held professional roles within the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Society for Medical Oncology and contributes to the European School of Oncology. His clinical and academic work centres on advancing evidence-based, personalised treatment for patients with gastrointestinal cancers.
