Professor Robert Leonard is a renowned consultant medical oncologist in London with a major interest in the management of breast cancer. His areas of expertise include gynaecological cancer, sarcoma, lymphomas, colon cancer and fertility cancer therapy.

Professor Leonard is the Professor of cancer studies at Imperial College and the Lead Clinician of cancer services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, as well as the Chief of Service for medical oncology.

Professor Leonard was awarded the Cancer Research Campaign Travelling Fellowship in 1981 to train as a Clinical Fellow at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He returned to the UK to take up a senior lectureship and consultant post in Edinburgh, where he worked for 19 years to start the academic medical oncology department.

He was chair of medical oncology and chair of the South West Wales Cancer Institute in 2001 and left after five years to lead the oncology department at Imperial College NHS trust as Professor of Oncology. Professor Leonard is the ex-Chair of the Scientific Board for Breast Cancer Care UK and remains a senior advisor to Cancer Research UK.

He has published over 350 papers on the biology and treatment of human cancer for over 40 years. He retired from the NHS in 2011 but still practices privately in some of London’s key hospitals and clinics.
