Dr Sameer Kurmani is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. With more than 15 years of clinical cardiology experience, Dr Kurmani sees patients with a broad spectrum of cardiac conditions, with a particular expertise in Coronary Artery Disease, Angina, and Heart attacks.
Dr Kurmani’s practice covers all aspects of general adult cardiology, including the comprehensive assessment and management of palpitations, chest pain and breathlessness. This includes performing invasive coronary angiography and angioplasty for the treatment of angina. Additionally, he takes a keen interest in preventative cardiology including the management of risk factors such as high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Dr Kurmani studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians while working at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London. He was subsequently awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in the East Midlands, during which he received a prestigious British Heart Foundation–funded research grant to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying coronary artery disease. His work led him to being award a PhD and he went on to complete his specialist training in General and Interventional Cardiology at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.
Dr Kurmani was awarded the prestigious British Cardiovascular Intervention Society fellowship which allowed him to undertake further training in complex coronary and structural heart intervention at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide.
In his role as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Kurmani performs more than 500 procedures each year, including diagnostic angiography, coronary angioplasty, intravascular imaging, invasive physiology assessment and advanced calcium modification techniques. He has performed over 3000 procedures to date routinely employing state-of-the-art techniques, establishing him as a high-volume operator in percutaneous coronary intervention.
