Dr Sarmad Mushtaq

Dr Sarmad Mushtaq is a consultant respiratory physician in Orpington, Sevenoaks and Chelmsford, who specialises in shortness of breath, chronic and troublesome cough, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chest infections, interstitial lung disease and lung cancer. He privately practises at LycaHealth Orpington, Sevenoaks Medical Centre and Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford, while his NHS role is at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.

Dr Mushtaq qualified in medicine from the University of Health Sciences Lahore, Pakistan, in 2008, and has completed extensive postgraduate training in both general and respiratory medicine. He holds Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Physicians in the UK, including specialist accreditation in respiratory medicine. He has also been awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow and holds the European Diploma in Adult Respiratory Medicine, reflecting a high standard of specialist knowledge and clinical competence.

He completed his higher specialist training in respiratory and general medicine in 2024 and has since developed broad experience in managing both acute and chronic respiratory diseases. His clinical work includes the assessment and treatment of conditions such as asthma, COPD, respiratory infections, lung fibrosis, bronchiectasis and pleural diseases, as well as the investigation of symptoms including wheezing and persistent cough. Dr Mushtaq is also experienced in the diagnosis and management of thoracic malignancies, including lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Dr Mushtaq’s practice includes a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as lung function testing, spirometry and bronchoscopy. He's involved in the interpretation of sleep studies and provides care in sleep and ventilation medicine, supporting patients with complex respiratory needs. His approach focuses on accurate diagnosis and long-term management, with care tailored to each patient’s condition and circumstances.

He's a member of several professional organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, and remains engaged in ongoing professional development. His clinical practice is supported by up-to-date training and experience in evidence-based respiratory medicine.
