Dr Sean Weaver is a leading consultant gastroenterologist in Bournemouth. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of indigestion, heartburn, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as performing endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. He privately practises at Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital, while his NHS base is University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Weaver qualified in medicine from Oxford University in 1993 and completed his specialist training in Oxford, Bath, Cambridge, Sydney and Bournemouth. He holds an MA, a PhD in inflammation from the University of Bath, a Master’s in leadership and quality improvement, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). His clinical practice has a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Alongside his clinical work Dr Weaver has held several national roles. He has been a national colonoscopy trainer, a bowel cancer screening colonoscopist and national quality improvement lead for inflammatory bowel disease at the Royal College of Physicians. He is currently deputy medical director at the Royal College of Physicians’ Invited Review Service.
Dr Weaver is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Royal College of Physicians and the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation. He combines his expertise in gut health, patient safety and quality improvement to provide tailored, evidence-based care for each patient.
