Dr Sharaf Ibrahim is a significantly experienced and highly trained Endocrinologist and Diabetes Consultant Physician based in London. Dr Ibrahim is a dedicated medical physician who specialises in conditions such as diabetes and its complications, thyroid dysfunction, calcium disorders, hypogonadism, as well as hypercholesterolemia and secondary hypertension to mention a few. Dr Ibrahim has an active interest in diabetes in pregnancy, modern, innovative treatments and technology for diabetes as well as a special research interest in diabetic neuropathy and foot disease.
He has been Lead Clinician at Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup since 2001 having become a consultant in 2000 and has been representing Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust for the past 21 years. Dr Ibrahim’s particularly gentle and attentive bedside manner has won him the deepest appreciation by thousands of patients during this time.
Most notably, Dr Ibrahim has contributed significantly to the establishment of local specialist medical services by developing specialist diabetes and endocrinology-focused clinics to ensure that patients can more easily access the services they depend upon. He has also taught junior doctors, primary healthcare professionals and medical students on a regular basis throughout the past two decades. Dr Ibrahim obtained his first medical qualification MBBS in 1985, at the University of Khartoum, Sudan and is therefore not only a fluent Arabic speaker, but also understands the cultural expectations and practices that can negatively impact health exceedingly well. He undertook specialist postgraduate training in the area of endocrinology and diabetes throughout London, Sheffield and Leeds from 1989. After two years as a research fellow at the University of Sheffield, he obtained an MD degree in 2002. He has also, to date, written numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and is a regular attendee of both national and international conferences.
