Mr Shilpith Shetty is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon located in Hampshire. He specialises in procedures such as total hip replacements, hip resurfacing, minimally invasive total and partial knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, knee osteotomy, and and revision hip and knee surgery. He is an expert in utilising robotic assistance when performing surgeries.
Mr Shetty qualified in 1993 from the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute before coming to the UK to undertake orthopaedic training in Liverpool. He moved to the Royal London Hospital, renowned for its trauma centre, to partake in specialised trauma management and lower limb surgical training. He has completed a senior fellowship in lower limb reconstruction and arthroplasty at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and another clinical fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. In 1996, he completed his Master’s degree in orthopaedics at Topiwala National Medical College, followed by an additional Master’s in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Liverpool in 2002, which was awarded for his submission of a thesis on polymerase chain reaction analysis of synovial fluid after failed hip and knee replacements. He was made a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2002, and was appointed consultant in 2006. He has previously been a clinical lead for orthopaedics at the Royal Hampshire Country Hospital.
In addition to his clinical commitments, Mr Shetty is involved with medical education. He has been a trainer for junior doctors and is an associate professor at St George’s Medical School, honing and teaching the next generation of surgeons.
Mr Shetty is an expert in robotic assisted hip and knee surgeries, and one of the few surgeons in his region undertaking this pioneering technology for improved function and recovery from hip and knee surgery.
