Dr Sophie Otter

Dr Sophie Otter is a consultant clinical oncologist in Guildford, who specialises in prostate cancer, bladder cancer and colorectal cancer, alongside chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy, hormone therapy and sterotactic radiotherapy. She privately practises at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital and her NHS base is the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she has served as Chief of Service for Oncology. In this role she has overseen cancer services for a population of around three million people across the south-east of England. She is also part of the team at the Prostate Brachytherapy Centre in Guildford, delivering highly specialised prostate cancer treatment. In addition, Dr Otter has expertise in the use of the MR Linac, an advanced radiotherapy technology that delivers high doses of treatment while minimising side effects.

Dr Otter studied medicine at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2004 with distinctions in medicine, surgery and pathology. She undertook specialist oncology training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and the The Royal Marsden Hospital. Her academic qualifications include an MSc in Oncology and Cancer Biology, an MD(Res) from the University of Surrey which focused on image-guided radiotherapy for pelvic tumours, and an MA in Leadership from Henley Business School.

She is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). Alongside her clinical roles, Dr Otter has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and served as an advisory editor for peer-reviewed journal Clinical Oncology. She actively recruits patients into international trials and acts as the Principal Investigator for several of these trials.

Her interests extend beyond clinical and academic work, with active involvement in charitable initiatives. These include fundraising for GRACE, a gynaecological cancer research and care charity, by running the London Marathon, and supporting the Royal Surrey Charity through events such as Stride for Cancer.
