He completed his specialist training in endocrinology, diabetes, and general (internal) medicine in Aberdeen and the Yorkshire Deanery, before undertaking a postgraduate research fellowship at the University of Hull under Professor Stephen Atkin. Since joining the University of Hull and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009 as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Senior Lecturer, he progressed to Reader in 2012 and was appointed as Professor of Endocrinology in 2016.
