Mr Ulrich Meyer-Bothling is a renowned consultant ophthalmic surgeon, founding member and past medical director of the Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service in Surrey. He specialises in the treatment of complex cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and refractive lens surgery, though he provides wide-ranging treatments of many ophthalmic conditions.
Mr Ulrich Meyer-Bothling originally studied in Hamburg, Germany where he obtained his medical degree and research PhD. He continued his studies at the University of Oxford, where he was awarded a Master of Science degree, and at Yale University and the University of Melbourne. He completed a fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, before being appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He provides a number of private clinics in Surrey, Middlesex and West London.
Mr Meyer-Bothling has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, and has led a number of research projects in his field.

- Mr Ulrich meyer-Bothling on the 15th May 2026, operated on both my eyes to remove cataracts. I am 83 years of age. Mr Meyer-Bothling gave me a selection of lenses and I chose to have Zeis trifocal lenses in both my eyes. I can now see without glasses to read the bottom line of the optical eye chart and this was from day 1 of my operation. The skill of Mr Ulrich meyer-Bothling is second to none. I am so grateful to have him as my eye consultant. I cannot thank him enough for giving me new eyes
