Mr Vivek Datta is a highly experienced consultant general and colorectal surgeon based in London, practising privately at London Bridge Hospital. He specialises in advanced colorectal surgery, with expertise in laparoscopic and open colorectal procedures, colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), hernia surgery, and the assessment and management of rectal bleeding and other complex bowel symptoms.
He qualified from the University of London in 1993 (MB BS) and completed his specialist surgical training within leading London centres. He went on to undertake a fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital and completed an MD in research at Imperial College London. He is also a consultant colorectal surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, where he manages a broad range of complex colorectal and emergency general surgical conditions.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Datta has a strong academic profile with numerous publications and regular presentations at national and international conferences. He is actively involved in surgical education and training, and serves on the steering group for the National Training Programme in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery. He is also a member of several professional organisations, including the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and the Royal Society of Medicine.
