Mr Wissam Abou-Chedid
Professional statement
Mr Wissam Abou-Chedid is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, internationally recognised for his expertise in robotic-assisted prostate cancer surgery and minimally invasive treatments for benign prostate disease.
He completed his medical degree at the University of Saint Joseph, Beirut, before completing his specialist urology training at Henry Mondor University Hospital, Paris. He further refined his expertise through advanced fellowships in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Clinique Saint Augustin, Bordeaux, and at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford.
Mr Abou-Chedid is among the highest-volume robotic prostate surgeons in the UK, having performed over 750 robotic procedures in the past four years. He is particularly known for his expertise in Retzius-sparing nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy, a highly specialised technique designed to optimise continence and erectile function, and he is one of the highest-volume surgeons in Europe performing this procedure.
He is widely recognised for driving innovation in prostate cancer care, including pioneering day-case robotic prostatectomy and implementing patient-directed catheter removal protocols, both aimed at enhancing recovery and improving patient experience. He also championed the acquisition and implementation of the Histolog® device, a breakthrough technology enabling real-time intraoperative margin assessment, helping to improve oncological precision during prostate cancer surgery.
In addition to prostate cancer surgery, Mr Abou-Chedid offers a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art treatments for benign prostatic enlargement (BPH), including Aquablation®, Echolaser™, and Rezum™, ensuring patients have access to the most advanced and least invasive treatment options available.
Mr Abou-Chedid is also a dedicated educator and surgical trainer. He is a Robotic and Minimally Invasive Urological Surgery Trainer at IRCAD, and regularly hosts international workshops and masterclasses where urologists visit to observe and learn advanced robotic prostatectomy techniques.
He is committed to improving prostate health outcomes at a national level and serves as a Prostate Cancer UK National Clinical Champion, while actively supporting The Prostate Project charity, promoting awareness, early detection, and patient-centred innovation in prostate cancer care.

- We were extremely lucky to have found Dr Chedid to carry out the TURP procedure. He has been very understanding about our needs and recommended the correct type of surgery. His post operation care has been great. He has responded to our queries in a speedy and professional manner. His approach to respond has been human, and gave us great comfort . The facilities at the Nuffield Hospital were great. The admin and nursing staff very helpful and responsive. These helped in the speedy recovery.
- Excellent medical care in every respect. I was extremely lucky to have Mr Abou-Chedid and his team… thank you so much
- I recently had a radical prostatectomy at St Peter’s Hospital under Wissam Abou-Chedid. Pre-op care was excellent and efficient; pelvic floor exercises made a huge difference with no post-op bladder issues. Surgery went smoothly, staff were outstanding, and recovery has been steady—walking by week 2 and light gym by week 4. Follow-up care has also been excellent. Highly recommend.
- Absolutely faultless treatment and care throughout the entire process 11/10
- From my first appointment at Nuffield Health Guildford, I knew I was in very good hands. Based on the outcome of my surgery, Mr Abou-Chedid is clearly a highly skilled surgeon. What has been equally important to me has been the professionalism and integrity of the whole patient-care process provided by Mr Abou-Chedid and all of the staff at the Nuffield Health Guildford and Nuffield Health Parkside.
- The clinical approach Mr Abou-Chedid took resulted in minimal pain post-op, no loss of bladder control even immediately after catheter removal and very minimal scarring. My wife and I will always be indebted to you for the outstanding care and kindness we received. We cannot recommend you highly enough. Thank you Mr Abou-Chedid.
- Each step of the process ran very smooth all the staff were professional and kind the surgery was carried out at the royal surrey but was not shown in the list above
- Mr Abou- Chedid was absolutely first class from the initial time we met. He reassured me clearly and professionally on how my prostate cancer surgery would take place. He ensured I had all the relevant information and that I understood the procedure. His manner and professionalism made the experience much easier to manage knowing and trusting his experience. I would have no doubt to recommend him as a first class surgeon. I can’t thank you enough for helping me through such a daunting period.
- Wissam and his team are an asset to the NHS. From the original diagnosis, through the pre-op assessment, the procedure itself and the post operative care, the way I have been looked after at all stages has been world class. Thank you all.
- Mr Abou-Chedid and his team are a fantastic group.
