Dr Yahya Makkeyah

Dr Yahya Makkeyah is a Consultant Nephrologist offering face-to-face consultations at Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital. Telephone or video follow-up appointments may be offered where clinically appropriate, booked through the hospital. He brings over twenty years of international experience in kidney medicine, having practised across the UK and the Middle East, and welcomes both general nephrology referrals and complex, specialist cases.

Kidney disease is at the core of his practice. He assesses patients at every stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) — from an early abnormal finding, such as a raised creatinine or reduced eGFR, through to advanced kidney failure — with a particular focus on identifying reversible causes and slowing disease progression. This includes patients flagged after a routine blood test, those with diabetes-related kidney changes, a family history of kidney disease, or seeking a specialist second opinion on an existing diagnosis.

Dr Makkeyah is also highly skilled in kidney transplantation, with over two decades of dedication to guiding patients through their pre- and post-transplant journeys. Additionally, he provides expert care for complex autoimmune renal diseases, including lupus nephritis and vasculitis, as well as comprehensive dialysis management.

He also leads the Hypertension Service at the University Hospitals of Leicester, a tertiary-level programme recognised as a European Centre of Excellence in Hypertension, and has a particular interest in hypertension linked to kidney disease, including resistant and secondary hypertension, and blood pressure diagnosed at a younger age.
