Dr Nikil Sharma is a highly experienced consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology, Queen Square, London, the UK’s largest dedicated neurological hospital, famous for the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological disorders. Dr Sharma diagnoses and treats people with a wide range of neurological disorders such as headaches, migraines, neuromuscular disorders, motor disorders, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy and stroke. He has special expertise in the early diagnosis of motor neurone disease or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), including benign fasciculation syndrome.

​Dr Sharma qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1998 and went on to train at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2002 before moving to the National Hospital to continue his neurology training. He was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge in 2007, after which he spent a number of years working at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, USA, where he was awarded a prestigious NRSA fellowship. His research at the NIH used state-of-the-art imaging to explore how the human brain learns. He also spent much time looking at the relationship between the gut and the brain.

Dr Sharma also lectures on the Clinical Neuroscience MSc & Neuromuscular MSc at University College London. He enjoys teaching medical students, junior doctors, nurses and physiotherapists and over the years has supervised for numerous Cambridge colleges including Trinity.
