Heart palpitations: When to be concerned and when to stay calm

Heart palpitations are a common experience, often described as a sensation of fluttering, pounding, or skipping beats in the chest. While they can feel alarming, most palpitations are harmless and not a sign of heart disease. However, there are cases where they may indicate an underlying medical issue. Understanding the possible causes and when to seek medical advice can help patients respond appropriately.

Is your heart racing? It could be ARVC

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited heart muscle problem. Relatively rare, it affects up to 1 in 10,000 of the population. Generally ARVC affects the right ventricle (pump chamber), however, the left ventricle may also be involved. Occasionally the condition spares the right side and predominantly affects the left side. Dr Amanda Varnava talks more about the symptoms and diagnoses of ARVC.
