Why I recommend uterine fibroid embolisation over surgery: A radiologist’s perspective
Uterine fibroids are a common concern for many women, often causing heavy periods, pelvic pain, or pressure symptoms that can affect daily life. Traditionally, surgery such as hysterectomy (removal of the womb) or myomectomy (removal of fibroids) has been the main treatment option. However, consultant interventional radiologist Dr James Briggs often recommends a less invasive alternative called uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE).
