Mr Evangelos Gkougkousis
Professional statement
Mr Evangelos Gkougkousis is a consultant urological surgeon with extensive experience across endourology, treatment of prostate conditions, urinary stones, urinary dysfunction and general urology. He specialises in HOLEP, Green Light Laser Prostatectomy (GLLP) and surgery for kidney stones, alongside circumcision, vasectomy, urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction and testicular pain. He practises privately at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, Spire King’s Lynn Clinic, The Day Clinic and The Hamptons Hospital, while his NHS base is North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
His clinical practice covers a broad range of urological conditions, also treating lower urinary tract symptoms, and scrotal conditions. His approach combines advanced minimally invasive techniques with evidence-based decision-making tailored to each patient’s needs.
Mr Gkougkousis has played a key role in developing and modernising urology services in both the NHS and private sector. His achievements include establishing a stand-alone urology department at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, introducing comprehensive laser prostatectomy services, developing a dedicated stone service, and setting up advanced diagnostic pathways such as template prostate biopsies. He has also held the role of urology cancer lead, where he led the introduction of an updated prostate cancer pathway and strengthened multidisciplinary team working.
He's an internationally recognised trainer in laser prostate surgery and regularly teaches GreenLight laser and HoLEP techniques to surgeons from the UK and overseas. In addition to formal teaching roles, he has been actively involved in bedside teaching, theatre supervision and postgraduate education throughout his career.
Mr Gkougkousis completed his medical degree at the University of Thrace in Greece and went on to obtain a PhD from the University of Athens, focusing on the management of symptoms related to ureteric stents. He holds Fellowship of the European Board of Urology and completed specialist urology training across leading centres in Greece and the UK, including high-volume tertiary referral units for cancer and stone disease. His training has provided him with extensive experience in advanced endourology, percutaneous stone surgery, upper tract laparoscopy and complex open renal and pelvic surgery.
He is a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons, the European Association of Urology and the Hellenic Urological Association. Alongside his clinical work, he has contributed to urological research through peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and national and international presentations, with particular interests in prostate disease, stone management and lower urinary tract dysfunction.
