Ms Jajini Varghese is a leading consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon based in London with over 15 years’ experience who specialises in breast cancer and breast lumps, as well as mastectomy, breast reconstruction, breast reduction and breast augmentation procedures. She possesses extensive knowledge in all aspects of breast surgery, and can also provide thorough risk assessment methods for breast cancer, including genetic testing and personalised preventative and detection strategies.

Ms Varghese, who consults privately at The Princess Grace Hospital, is dual-certified in plastic surgery and breast oncology surgery. She originally qualified from Dr M G R Medical University in 2005 and undertook her surgical training on the prestigious Pan-Thames rotation, working at some of London’s busiest teaching hospitals, notably St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of various professional organisations, including the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.

As a recognised expert, Ms Varghese is also one of the few specialists in the UK to have been awarded a full Cambridge Commonwealth scholarship to the University of Cambridge to complete an MPhil and a PhD in the genetic epidemiology of breast cancer. This investigation, which led to the identification of the genetic determinant ZNF 365 gene in collaboration with Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic, was published in high-impact academic journals such as Nature Genetics and is now used in microarrays worldwide.

With a patient-centred approach to breast surgery, Ms Varghese is passionate about the use of plastic surgical techniques to enhance cosmetic outcomes following breast cancer treatment. She is additionally an honorary clinical lecturer at University College London, where she is also an examiner for both MSc and PhD courses, and is also the current specialty lead for breast cancer for the North London Genomics hub. Ms Varghese has won a number of accolades for her dedicated clinical practice, most recently being JCI’s Oustanding Young Person of the Year Award.
