What is free fluid in the pelvis?
The Pouch of Douglas, also known as the rectouterine pouch, is a small, triangular space located in the lower abdomen, behind the uterus and in front of the rectum. It's the lowest part of the peritoneal cavity, the lining of the abdominal cavity. The presence of fluid in this space can be a normal physiological occurrence or a sign of a pathological condition.
