Professional statement
Mr David Marks is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon based in Birmingham. He specialises in spinal deformity, particularly in children, and early onset scoliosis. He has co-designed two paediatric non-fusion systems, and is actively involved in implant design to this day.
After qualifying from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London in 1985 and undertaking general surgical training in London and Warwick, Mr Marks completed his orthopaedic residency in Birmingham in 1991. He became senior registrar to the spinal deformity service in Birmingham in 1993, and received a British Orthopaedic Society Wishbone Travelling Scholarship in 1995. After a travelling fellowship in the USA (San Francisco, San Diego and Kansas) from June to September 1995 and undertaking the Harms Fellowship with Prof. J Harms in Germany over the winter of 1995, Mr Marks was appointed as Consulting Surgeon to The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and The Birmingham Children’s Hospital in December 1995.
He serves as Honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Birmingham and is an active member of the Scoliosis Research Society, as well as a Member of The Board of Directors.
