Mr Michael Quaye is a leading Consultant Spinal Surgeon based in Southampton and Basingstoke who specialises in discectomies, spinal decompression and ACDF surgery, alongside spinal sport injuries, spinal fusion and sciatica. He privately practices at Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital, Spire Southampton Hospital, and The Hampshire Clinic while his NHS base in University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.  

Mr Quaye is highly qualified, with a BSc (Hons) in Materials Engineering from the University of London, a FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, and a European Spine Diploma from EUROSPINE. Furthermore he has an MB BS from St Bartholomew's & Royal London School of Medicine at the University of London, where he was awarded the British Orthopaedic Research Society Prize in 2006. 

After graduating, Mr Quaye underwent orthopaedic surgical training in Wessex deanery, where he won the Gauvain Society Research Prize 2015. He then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in all areas of specific clinical interest, including fellowships at Southampton University Hospital, Oxford Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Groote Schuur in Cape Town, South Africa, and Frimley Park Hospital. 

Mr Quaye treats young people with sports injuries and older patients with degenerative conditions, and has a very good understanding of problems arising from other joints such as the hip, knee or shoulder and how these can be confused with, as well as interact with spinal problems.  He aims to leave all patients with a detailed understanding of their problem and recovery plan, based on his ethos that life should be enjoyed and recognition of the impact spinal problems can have on quality of life. 

Mr Quaye's clinical research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals and in book chapters. Alongside this, he has presented his work at both national and international conferences. He is a member of various professional organisations including the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Association of Spinal Surgeons and the British Scoliosis Society. He's also a member of EUROSPINE and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
