Dr Rajiv Chandy is a highly respected consultant gastroenterologist based in Cheshire. He is renowned for his expertise in digestive disorders and endoscopic procedures

Dr Chandy qualified in medicine in 1988 at the University of Kerala in India. He then trained in General Internal Medicine, obtaining his MD in 1991, followed by membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) in 1993. He was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust in 2000. He was conferred fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians - London (FRCP) in 2007. Throughout his esteemed career, Dr Chandy has held a number of senior responsibilities and was the lead clinician for inflammatory bowel disease at his NHS base for many years. Currently, he is lead clinician for gastroenterology research and lead for hepatobiliary endoscopy. Dr Chandy sees private patients at the Spire Cheshire Hospital.

Dr Chandy has a keen interest in GI research and is a principal investigator in a wealth of commercial gastrointestinal trials, maintaining the largest portfolio in the north of England. He has been an invited speaker in international conferences. In 2020, the Whiston research team, which Dr Chandy led, won the National Institute for Health and Care Research’s award for best commercial research team in the North West coast. He also acts as a reviewer for the British Medical Journal and he has authored a number of academic papers.
