Pneumonia is a serious bacterial lung infection. It often begins in the upper respiratory tract before moving onto the lungs. It causes fever, severe cold symptoms, very fast breathing or working hard to breathe, vomiting and chest pain. In babies, it can be caused by chlamydia or whooping cough, but can also be a sign of an more serious underlying condition such as chronic lung disease of prematurity, congenital lung disease, and immunosuppression.
