Mr Amjid Ali

Mr Amjid Ali is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in the treatment of the shoulder and elbow and is based in Sheffield. He is renowned for his expertise in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, shoulder surgery and shoulder prosthesis, as well as elbow pain and osteoarthritis of the elbow.

Mr Ali qualified in medicine from the University of Sheffield in 1996 before undergoing further surgical and specialist orthopaedic training. He additionally travelled to Sydney, Australia to undergo further training in shoulder and elbow surgery and also spent time at The Shoulder and Elbow Unit at Sheffield’s revered Northern General Hospital.

Mr Ali has also obtained fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons Trauma and Orthopaedics section and was awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship which allowed him to visit the esteemed Mayo Clinic in the USA. He has been appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals since 2008. With his wealth of clinical experience and expertise, he is often consulted in highly complex cases within the wider Yorkshire region. He sees patients in private practice at Sheffield Orthopaedics Limited.

Throughout his esteemed career, Mr Ali has held several senior positions in his field and is a leading name in medical education. He is an examiner for the Royal College Intercollegiate Speciality examination in trauma and orthopaedic surgery and a faculty member on Sheffield and Chesterfield’s clinical examination course. Mr Ali also regularly teaches trainee specialists in shoulder and elbow surgery at a national and international level.

During his training, Mr Ali invented a set of surgical instruments that continue to be used in elbow replacement surgery to this day. His research and academic work are published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and he has also authored several book chapters on shoulder and elbow problems. Mr Ali is a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and the British Orthopaedic Society.
