Dr Sonia Wartan

Dr Sonia Wartan is a pain medicine and anaesthesia consultant at the Oak Tree Clinic. She specialises in anaesthesia, pain management, caudal epidural, lower back pain, sciatica and pelvic pain. She's one of the few consultants who concentrate solely on pain medicine. She trained in anaesthesia and pain medicine at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals in London, where she also researched phantom limb and neuropathic pain.

Dr Wartan is actively involved in teaching and training. She founded the advanced pain medicine training programme at Aneurin Bevan University Hospitals. She's been the local pain medicine educational supervisor for 15 years and the clinical lead of pain services. She's published extensively, with fifteen peer-reviewed papers and has received two national research prizes for work at Guy's Hospital Pain Medicine Unit.

In Wales, Dr Wartan established and oversees the only multidisciplinary pelvic pain management clinic. She's particularly interested in managing pain from endometriosis and is working on a book about it. She's been a speaker at national and international conferences, including those about gynaecology.
 
Dr Wartan is an active member of several professional societies and is invited to advise on pain medicine matters in Wales. Her approach is based on evidence, using thorough history-taking and examinations to create individualised pain management plans that consider how pain affects a person's quality of life. She's skilled in various treatments like medications, non-surgical pain relief, and pain management procedures.
