Unlike traditional braces, Fastbraces® are known to straighten teeth pretty fast. But how fast are we talking and which dental problems can they treat? Dr Olurotimi Adesanya, a top dentist based in Kent, explains more about these revolutionary braces.

What are Fastbraces® and how do they work?

Fastbraces® Technologies is a high-performance bracket system. It uprights the roots of the teeth toward their final position from the beginning of treatment with just one wire, and thus establishes the natural alveolar bone morphology.

Fastbraces® have been designed to straighten teeth quickly and safely, providing immediate root movement from the very beginning of therapy. Some patients notice an improvement within days of starting treatment.

What dental problems can Fastbraces® resolve?

Fastbraces® align or straighten teeth that are crowded and close ‘not too large’ spaces between your teeth. They can also move teeth out of the dental arch and back into it, and correct “bad bites”, also known as malocclusion.

Can Fastbraces® be used to fix complex cases?

In regards to complex dental problems, Fastbraces® can be effective when combined with other dental disciplines, for example, implants and restorative techniques.

How fast can Fastbraces® straighten teeth?

One of the benefits of Fastbraces® is that patients can see a noticeable difference in their teeth within a matter of days and some could be out of their braces in under 100 days.

What are the overall benefits of Fastbraces compared to traditional braces?

Fastbraces® outperform traditional braces in many areas and they are generally more comfortable to wear. The technology involved reduces sliding friction, so teeth move more gently with reduced pain. In fact, Fastbraces® have significantly the lowest mean frictional forces by 87% when compared to all other orthodontic brackets.

Research from the American Journal of Orthodontics has shown that the longer patients wear braces, the more root resorption (tooth root shortening) they have. University research in the same journal also showed that Fastbraces® presented 'even less root resorption' than the traditional systems tested. This could be because these high-performance bracket systems move the roots of teeth towards their final positions from the onset of treatment with low forces in one stage in weeks to months instead of multiple stages in a matter of years. Therefore, patients don’t stay in braces for a long time.

How can patients have Fastbraces® fitted?

To know if you are eligible for Fastbraces®, you will need to be examined by a dentist to check your bone level, gums and teeth. If there is any disease of the gum, bone and/or teeth found, it will need to be treated before starting Fastbraces® treatment.
