Lynch syndrome, also called hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer, is a hereditary condition that increases the likelihood of developing colon and rectal cancer. There are two types of Lynch sydrome.  Type 1 affects the colon and can cause rectum cancer and type 2 involves other cancers such as tumors in the ovary, pancreas or brain.
