Mr Arjun Shankar

Mr Arjun Shankar is a distinguished consultant general surgeon based in London. Specialising in a variety of upper and lower GI surgical procedures, his expertise includes gastrointestinal endoscopy, sarcoma, pancreatitis, hernia, abdominal wall reconstruction, and gallbladder surgery.

Mr Shankar qualified in medicine at the University of London in 1990 before undergoing surgical training at a range of esteemed institutions including The Middlesex, University College and Hammersmith Hospitals. He completed extensive research in the development of colorectal liver metastases, for which he was awarded an MD. Mr Shankar is also an appointed fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Throughout his esteemed career, he has held a number of senior positions and helped to lead and develop the internationally renowned surgical unit at University College Hospital, which specialises in pancreatic disease and is one of the largest of its type in Europe. Mr Shankar is also renowned for his expertise in dealing with complex recurrences and complications and uses a wide range of innovative reconstructive technologies and techniques. He also leads the Abdominal Sarcoma Unit within the London Sarcoma Service and the Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Unit at HCA The Lister Hospital, where he sees patients in private practice as a consultant general surgeon.

Mr Shankar previously held the position of divisional clinical director of gastrointestinal services at the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has published a number of academic papers which appear in peer-reviewed journals. He was also a member of the 'Outstanding' team at The Lister Hospital, recognised by the Care and Quality Commission (CQC).
