Mr Imran Jawaid is a leading consultant ophthalmologist and former optometrist based in Nottingham who specialises in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. In addition to myopia and eyelid lumps and bumps, he is also an expert in the management and treatment of cataracts in adults and children.
Before specialising in ophthalmology, Mr Jawaid considered a profession in optometry, which he studied at the University of Bradford. He spent six years working as a high street optometrist and then took on a specialist optometrist post at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where he collaborated on the photodynamic therapy for macular degeneration studies. Mr Jawaid returned to education in 2006, completing his medical degree at the University of Leicester. He undertook his ophthalmology and research training in Nottingham, before going on to accomplish a prestigious post-CCT fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Oxford Eye Hospital. Mr Jawaid obtained his FRCOphth from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2019. He is currently a consultant ophthalmologists and clinical lead for emergency ophthalmology at Queen’s Medical Centre.
With a CCT in ophthalmology and training in optometry and as such, Mr Jawaid is able to provide an inclusive clinical management for all of his patients. He is passionate about the relationship between ophthalmology and optometry and sits on the Education Committee at the General Optical Council to help bridge this connection. Besides this, Mr Jawaid continues to author a number of peer-reviewed papers, contribute to book chapters in ophthalmology and present at national and international ophthalmology conferences.
Alongside his work at Queen's Medical Centre, Mr Jawaid currently sees patients at Spire Nottingham Hospital and at his private practice.
