Dr Ashan Gunarathne is a highly revered consultant interventional cardiologist who specialises in angina, atrial fibrillation, coronary heart disease, palpitations, valvular heart disease, as well as stroke, amongst many other heart-related conditions and diseases. He is currently practising at the Trent Cardiac Centre and the Spire Nottingham Hospital.
Notably, Dr Gunarathne began and lead the Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion service at the Nottingham University Hospital, in addition to providing other coronary and structural interventions. He successfully completed two years of academic research at the University of Birmingham, before he obtained an MD said university in 2012. Before that, Dr Gunarathne completed both an MBBS in 2000 at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, as well as an MRCP five years later at the prestigious Royal College of Physicians UK.
Dr Gunarathne, who also specialises in coronary angioplasty, ischemic heart disease, stenting, and left atrial appendage occlusion, is also an honorary assistant professor at the University of Nottingham and was previously an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He has, to-date, published extensively in peer-reviewed medical books and journals.
