Professor Martyn Caplin is a highly regarded gastroenterologist at The Wellington Hospital, He specialises in neuroendocrine tumours, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBD), endoscopy, coeliac disease and cancer screening.

Professor Caplin heads the Royal Free Hospital's Centre of Excellence for the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society and oversees scientific and clinical exploration of these malignancies at University College London. From 2014 to 2016, he held the position of chairman for the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society and is currently an advisory board member. Furthermore, he is a founding member and previous chairman of the UK & Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his clinical leadership and research in the realm of uncommon cancers. Moreover, he was affiliated with the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and formerly chaired the group dedicated to rare cancers. At present, he presides as the chairman of the European Union Reference Network for Rare Cancers Neuroendocrine Tumour Group. He has also been the clinical head of "NHS Evidence" for gastroenterology and liver diseases, operating under the umbrella of NICE.

Professor Caplin is very interested in the relationship between nutrition and disease, and he has issued publications on the factual foundation for the influence of diet and dietary supplements on ailments. His portfolio encompasses over 200 peer-reviewed works along with several book chapters, and he has co-authored two books. He is a regular presenter of seminars both on a national and international platform.
