How soon can I start driving after cataract surgery?

Surgery to correct cataracts has an expected recovery period of about one month; this isn’t to say that the patient is unable to use their eyes after surgery – in fact, most patients report vision improvement within two days post-surgery – but that there is an adjustment period as their eyes heal and the vision stabilises. This means that patients have to be aware that they may not be suitable to drive for some time after their procedure, typically three days. In this article, a consultant ophthalmologist explains when patients can get back behind the wheel after undergoing cataract surgery.
