It will vary on the test, but patients are recommended to undertake prolonged fasting. Other things to take into consideration are: 

• calorie-free and caffeine-free beverages only may be consumed
• prescribed medication usually can be continued
• smoking is not permitted during the test
• the patient would need to remain physically active during waking hours, but not leave the ward

What should be expected from an endocrine test?

It will depend on the test. In many cases, urine and blood tests are used to check your hormone levels, while in some cases, imaging tests are done to pinpoint or locate a tumor or other abnormalities that may be affecting the endocrine glands.
 

Treatment of endocrine disorders is often complicated, as a change in one hormone level can throw off another. Your doctor may order routine blood work to check for issues or to determine if your treatment plan or medication needs to be adjusted.
