Professor Neil Tan is a leading consultant ENT surgeon based in Truro, Cornwall. With almost 20 years of experience, Professor Tan is highly experienced in a wide range of ENT conditions and surgical procedures. He has a sub-specialist are of interest in treating conditions of the nose and sinuses. His areas of expertise include sinusitis, nasal allergy, nasal polyps, blocked nose, smell issues and facial pain, as well as treating snoring and sleep apnoea.
Professor Tan currently practises privately at the Ramsay Duchy Hospital in Truro, Cornwall. He is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust and Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Exeter Medical School.
Professor Tan undertook his basic medical training at Guy’s, King’s and St. Thomas’ School of Medicine, London, and included a degree in Radiological Sciences. He completed his higher specialist ENT Training in the East of England region and achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016. He undertook two years of sub-speciality fellowships in Anterior and Lateral Skull Base Surgery in Addenbrookes, Cambridge, and Advanced Rhinology, Endoscopic Skull Base and Lacrimal Surgery in Adelaide, Australia working with world leaders in rhinology and endoscopic sinus surgery.
He has an extensive background in academic rhinology research, having completed a Doctor of Philosophy with Distinction from the University of Adelaide in 2013, where he was awarded a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. He has published extensively in basic sciences and clinical rhinology research, and has given numerous international presentations in the USA, Australia, Europe, and UK.
He is the only UK member of the International Committee of the American Rhinologic Society. He sits on the National Councils of the British Rhinological Society and British Otorhinolaryngology & Allied Sciences Research Society. He is the National Research Lead for the British Rhinologic Society and Regional Peninsular Research Lead for the National Institute of Health Research ENT Clinical Research Network.
Professor Tan has a keen interest in education and training. He is Chair of the Speciality Training Committee for ENT Trainees in the South West Peninsular. He was awarded a Master of Education with Distinction from the University of Cambridge and teaches on numerous internationally recognised sinus surgery courses in Australia, Canada, the UK. He convened and led the first UK Frontal Sinus Masterclass dedicated at teaching endoscopic sinus surgery of the frontal sinus.
