Professional statement

Mr Daniel Good is a highly skilled consultant urological surgeon based in Edinburgh who specialises in all aspects of prostate disease, including raised PSA diagnostics, robotic prostate cancer surgery, and the minimally invasive treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia using procedures such as Green light laser prostatectomy. He is also an expert in circumcision and scrotal operations, and has extensive experience managing lower urinary tract symptoms and recurrent urinary tract infections, as well. Alongside his work at NHS Lothian, Mr Good currently sees private patients at Spire Murrayfield Hospital and at The Edinburgh Clinic.

Mr Good originally qualified from the University of Dublin. He relocated to Edinburgh after completing his basic surgical training, and was soon awarded a PhD from the University of Edinburgh on the role of elasticity as a biomarker for prostate cancer. Mr Good then spent four years in higher specialty training on the prestigious East of Scotland training scheme, during which he accomplished a robotic surgery focused TUF/PS fellowship in prostate cancer. Mr Good later travelled to the USA, where he undertook a preceptorship in urology at the famed Cleveland Clinic and visited high-volume robotic surgical practices. In 2020, Mr Good led the introduction of local transperineal prostate biopsy procedures into NHS Lothian services using Precision Point, continuing to supervise its quality delivery to this day.

Further to his highly specialised urological practice, Mr Good is involved in the NIHR UK-wide TRANSLATE and PART trials, and serves as co-investigator for wider prostate investigations, including the PRISTINE prostate cancer imaging trial. He is on the GMC's specialist register for urology and holds his own research grant. A dedicated instructor, Mr Good is also an honorary senior clinical lecturer and research supervisor for the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, The University of Edinburgh, and Heriot Watt University.
