Miss Melanie Tipples is a highly-experienced consultant gynaecologist based in Chichester. With over three decades of experience, Miss Tipples is an expert in numerous gynaecological conditions, and in the assessment and management of early-pregnancy patients and patients who suffer from abnormal bleeding. Her areas of expertise include minimal access hysterectomy, ultrasound, colposcopy, vulvar abnormality, vaginal prolapse and early pregnancy assessment.
Miss Tipples currently practises privately at Nuffield Health Chichester (adult patients), and St Richard’s Hospital (patients under the age of 18). She is also the Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at the Nuffield Health Chichester and the Foundation Lead for St Richard’s Hospital.
In addition to her private practices, she is also the lead for gynaecology surgery at St Richard’s Hospital. She is a competent, double-qualified minimal-access surgeon, holding both her FRCOG and FRCSEd.
Miss Tipples has made numerous contributions to the field of gynaecology, including the introduction of the day case hysterectomy pathway to the University of Sussex Hospital Trust. She is currently working with Get It Right First Time (GRFT and NCIP) to promote the day case hysterectomy, and has put together a toolkit for units to use to introduce this pathway. She has personally undertaken 160 day case hysterectomies in the last 18 months.
Miss Tipples’ practice focuses on the assessment and management of patients on the fast-track pathway, including ultrasound, colposcopy and vulvoscopy. She is an accredited colposcopist, and an accredited trainer and examiner for the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
Miss Tipples is highly experienced in the management of patients with abnormal bleeding, including assessment and surgery as required. She also supports the delivery of care for paediatric patients requiring advice on gynaecological matters.
Miss Tipples’ contributions to the field of gynaecology extend beyond her clinical work. She is an esteemed medical educator, and is currently the Head of School for Obstetrics and Gynaecology for Kent, Surrey and Sussex, and a National Recruitment Lead for obstetrics and gynaecology.
Miss Tipples is the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Fellows representative for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. She is also a member of many prestigious societies, including the British Society of Gynaecology, the Royal Society of Medicine and the British Society of Colposcopists.
